A sense of place.

So what is it, that keeps making me coming back to this place? Why this bond? What’s the meaning? A meaning, that I know is there but that I can’t quite entitle. Is this what they call home? Is it freedom? Passion? Or love?

Well, I shall figure it out, I guess :)

She wasn‘t in a good condition. Gaping wounds on her leg, stains of blood in her face. Her body dotted with ticks and she could hardly stand the heat of the day. A shady spot beneath the bushes right by the water and some company – maybe sister or daughter – made life a bit easier.
No whining. No complaints. As an apex predator, there isn’t room for such a thing as weakness. She’ll simply carry on with what she‘s made for. Hunting. Rearing cubs. Fearless and confident, with the grace and the power of a lioness!

And as this day comes to an end, I’m sitting on the cool concrete steps to our little cottage‘s patio enjoying a coke. By force of habit scanning the tree canopy my eyes meet the bright yellow stare of this little chap. It’s a African barred owlet and I’m pretty sure his name is Bruno.
